Untitled Goose Game is a singleplayer indie game for PC, console, and Switch. It began as a conversation between game devs about geese - specifically that geese are huge jerks. Then, one of them had an idea: what if there was a game where the sole objective was to be a goose, raising heck and bothering innocent people?

Untitled Goose Game

Untitled Goose is that game.

Concept

You are a goose. You have a laundry list of terrible things to do to people. These range from stealing a gardener's keys to dumping laundry in a fountain, tricking a man into throwing a vase, or tripping a child.

Untitled Goose Game is a highly original, entertaining game.

There are a few wholesome missions, like having a picnic or encouraging a woman to tie a bow around your neck. But, it's mostly loony shenanigans.

Graphics and Audio

The game has a very nice style. It's simplistic, with soft shapes and no line art around figures. It feels a lot like an illustration at times, especially when lines appear to show shock and noise.

The music stays out of the way. Some parts are tranquil, the only noise coming from the goose itself. When there is music, it's quick, soft, piano notes. It highlights comedic chase scenes like an old-timey silent movie.

There's something very satisfying about how the goose is rendered. The way it puffs up flaps its wings, and honks are true to life. Using these abilities to interact with the villagers (for better or worse, usually worse) is very entertaining because of the care that was put into the animations.

Gameplay

The gameplay is simple to learn. There are very few controls and a clean, basic UI. Casual fans and hardcore gamers can both begin playing without a learning curve.

Parts of it play like a stealth or puzzle game. Often, you'll find yourself sneaking stolen items past villagers, or needing to escape when a plan goes awry.

Untitled Goose Game is a linear game that can be completed in under two hours. However, how you finish is open to interpretation. The missions only tell you the final objective, not how to get there, which encourages creative thinking.

Conclusion

Untitled Goose Game is a rambunctious game that can be enjoyed by anyone. It's an indie game with a lot of love and care put into its production. The graphics, audio, and puzzles are great.

If you want to be a chaotic evil goose, now's your chance.

Replay Value

Sadly, despite its hilarity, Untitled Goose Game doesn't have a lot of replay value. Which is common among linear indie games, there are clear Start and End. The shenanigans in the Middle can shift depending on what you do, but ultimately, there is a finite amount of maps, people, and pranks.

However, don't let this dissuade you from playing again. Untitled Goose Game is a genuinely fun experience, worth replaying even when you know exactly how it's going to go down.

TL/DR

Untitled Goose Game is an indie game where you, a goose, slowly make the world burn.
