Genshin Impact is a free-to-play, open-world with gacha game elements. miHoYo released the fantasy action RPG on September 28, 2020, for cross-platform play. Genshin Impact can be enjoyed on PC, PS4, Android, and iOS.

Welcome to Teyvat

Enter the sprawling world of Teyvat. You begin the game by choosing a twin - boy or girl- with wind powers.

As the story progresses, you unlock additional characters. By the end of the prologue, you'll be in a party of four:

• Your twin of choice, with wind powers.
• Amber, an archer with fire powers.
• Kaeya, a melee fighter with ice powers.
• Lisa, a caster with electric powers.

Each of these characters is bound to a number: 1, 2, 3, and 4. You may switch them out at any time. This leads to some interesting fights and challenge mechanics.

A Magnificent World

The game is absolutely gorgeous. Even with the graphics on low, the scenery and animations shine. Genshin Impact's world is bursting with color and character.

Every path has something new to see.

The UI is neat and straightforward. There's plenty of visual space to experience the world you're in.

The audio is equally grand. From the title screen onward, expect to be serenaded by wonderful music. Additionally, the NPCs are voice-acted, but it seldom distracts from the story.

Harness the Elements

Gameplay begins with a single-player story campaign. Co-op unlocks once the player reaches Adventure Rank 16.

While the game is primarily combat-based, fighting doesn't get stale. Since the game relies so heavily on elemental types, the player must strategize carefully to overcome obstacles.

Additionally, powers can be used outside of combat to solve puzzles or interact with nodes. For example, pyro powers can light a cooking fire, or burn away thorns blocking a path.

In a Nutshell

Genshin Impact is a breath of fresh air. The open-world is immersive and satisfying. The graphics and audio are a treat.

This game brings new elements to the RPG table. Without giving too much away, the first boss fight has unexpected mechanics. There are puzzles and chests littered across the world, ripe for the taking. There's even a way for the player to achieve rudimentary flight.

With so much to see and do, Genshin Impact is definitely a worthwhile download.

Genshin Impact is a very linear game and doesn't allow for a return to old cutscenes and story quests. Dungeons are the only thing that can be run multiple times. The player can also unlock more difficult versions of the story dungeons.

Unfortunately, endgame content is sparse. However, Genshin Impact is a brand new game. The endgame could see some serious buffs in the future.

For now, enjoy the journey while you're on it.
