Shooters have saturated the online PVP scene for the last few years. While they are plenty of fun, they also have a certain skill barrier for a lot of players. Fall Guys is the latest in battle royale that doesn't have that barrier. Its simplified drop-in mode makes it fun for anyone!
Fall Guys is seriously the most fun I've had with a PVP game in a while. Matches start with anywhere from 40 to 60 players. Play through several rounds of mini-games. The concept behind these matches is simple: come out as the top dog!
The mini-games are random. Each has a qualifying number of winners. Some games are team-based, and the losing team's players get eliminated.
It's easy, it's fun, and honestly, I love that just about anybody can dive in with very little trouble in Fall Guys 5/5 PVP idea.
The fast-paced nature of Fall Guys means things stay pretty simple. However, simple is still pretty fantastic here. Platforms have excellent hitboxes; where it looks like you can land, you will land. Stand on the edge too close, and you'll probably fall off.
These types of graphics work seem minor until they matter in big situations! It's nice to have accuracy when you're swarming across inflatable bridges with 30 other teeny bean characters. The graphics get a solid 4/5.
Solid neon and primary colors make lots of appearances in the background. You can customize your character (who looks like a happy bean with arms and legs) with different color schemes, wildly different from the stages' colors. It helps make sure you stand out against obstacle courses, goo, and more.
Fall Guys gets a 5/5 in gameplay. It features super simple controls. You can jump, dive, and grab during a match. There is no sprinting. Hop into a match-making session, and then start a random mini-game! You'll be with up to 59 other players. Personally, every match I started had at least 40 people.
Each mini-game has winners and, of course, losers. Generally, there's a "Qualifying" number you can see in the corner of the screen. If you don't qualify, you're out. You can then leave the match and head back to the main menu. Team mini-games like "Fall Ball" (football) see the losing team getting booted.
The main menu is where you can quickly and easily customize your adorable squishy bean! Unlocking cool skins and outfits is as easy as playing matches. You earn experience points, which levels you up into new skins! You also earn currency, which then buys lots of different outfits in the shop.
I'm not going to lie. I'm completely sold, even after a short time with this game. The mini-games are exuberantly hilarious, like where everyone hoards chicken eggs for 2 minutes. There's enough of a variety that I wasn't getting bored. Things didn't feel repetitive. Matches are quick enough to keep me amused but not be frustrating. Customization is easy. Rest assured, Fall Guys is the battle royale I'm currently raving about.
