PlayStation 5: "Play Has No Limits"

Sony certainly delivered a whopping presentation at their Summer Game Fest event on June 11. We already knew a bit about the PlayStation 5 Specs, but "The Future of Gaming" revealed key details regarding Hardware Design and Features as well as the exclusive games we can expect to see. I, for one, am much anticipating some of the fantastic titles they revealed. Horizon II: Forbidden West, has me itching to play again as Alloy. Meanwhile, Stray looks to be an apt indie title featuring life as an alley cat. There's a whole host of other games I'm stoked to play! Here's are all of the confirmed third-party and indie exclusive games that are exclusive to this next-gen console.

PlayStation 5 Exclusive Third-Party Games

GTA V

  • Genre: Open-World Shooter
  • Developer: Rockstar Games
  • Release Date: Mid-2021

Yes, Rock Star took the opportunity to release GTA V yet again. Die-hard fans will be glad to know that GTA: V's online play will make a return as well whenever the PS5 drops.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

  • Genre: Horror Adventure
  • Developer: Tango Gameworks, [Bethesada]
  • Release Date: 2021

This spooky game features a mostly-empty Tokyo. Fight against ghostly forces after 99% of the population mysteriously disappears. Some crazy abilities were on display in the trailer, including what looked like elemental blasts of ice, fire, and wind. Ghostwire: Tokyo promises to be an action-packed story of specters.

Godfall

If you're looking for a loot-slasher game, Godfall is where you'll find a home this generation. The epic gameplay featured offered a glimpse into some of the giant bosses we'll get to take on, and several different classes and their abilities. Godfall looks to be a strong contender for games I'm personally excited to play!

Hitman III

  • Genre: Action Shooter
  • Developer: IO Interactive
  • Release Date: January 2021

The shooter game comes to PS5 in January 2021! Play as Agent 47, the world-class assassin in the final installment of the World of Assassination trilogy. Adventure to never-before-seen places all around the globe, killing influential people in unorthodox and creative ways while altering the world of Agent 47 and his friends forever.

NBA 2K21

  • Genre: Sports, Basketball
  • Developer: Visual Concepts, 2K
  • Release Date: Holiday 2020

The announcement trailer for NBA 2K21 turns up the heat. We fully expect a career mode, robust multiplayer, and professional leagues to continue in this solid basketball series that any sports game fan will be excited to check out.

Deathloop

The gameplay trailer Sony showed off gave us two sides of a coin: Colt and Juliana Blake. An entire island called Black Reef exists to hunt Colt, who, with each death, learns more about Black Reef. Juliana, meanwhile, exists to protect the island from Colt. Play as either in this action title that has strong Dishonored vibes. It's no surprise, considering it's from the same studio within Bethesda, Arkane Lyon.

Resident Evil VIII: Village

  • Genre: Survival Horror
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Release Date: 2021

The cinematic trailer blends the past with the present. It was stuffed full of glimpses of horrific monsters as well as some unexpected faces. The strange, snowy land in Village hides villains both human and otherwise. It's a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, so expect to see returning faces.

Pragmata

The reveal trailer that Sony showed off was pretty weird! We saw a hulking mech, a little girl, and an epic fight that hurls them into space. This Capcom title isn't due out until 2022, so there's plenty of time to get some more details on what exactly Pragmata will be.

Horizon II: Forbidden West

The long-anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn brings us a new story of Alloy. The fierce warrior returns in the stunning trailer, but a very different terrain. It looks like we'll be exploring lush rainforests and beaches this time around!

Destruction Allstars

  • Genre: Vehicular Combat
  • Developer: Lucid Games Limited
  • Release Date: TBA

This title feels like a response to the success of Rocket League. The trailer shows off some pretty wild combat situations. I'm looking forward to something a little different, and this might scratch that itch for me.

Returnal

  • Genre: Sci-fi Third-Person Shooter
  • Developer: Housemarque
  • Release Date: TBA

Land on a hostile planet. Survive as long as possible. Experience brutal death. Rinse and repeat. Returnal's trailer gave us a glimpse of an astronaut, bravely returning time after time to toxic environments. We're looking forward to more details about the gameplay of this shooter from Housemarque.

Project Athia

Project Athia's visually stunning trailer gave us a taste of a visceral world and a female protagonist. Square Enix will surely give us more details as we get closer to the release date of this tantalizing, beautiful title.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

  • Genre: Action Adventure
  • Developer: Insomniac
  • Release Date: Holiday 2020

Insomniac is going to be busy in the months leading up to launch. Marvel's Spider-man: Miles Morales is a Playstation 5 exclusive. Sony has since clarified that this is a standalone title, and not a remaster of the original.

Gran Turismo 7

The next installation of Gran Turismo brings fast-paced, high-intensity racing to the PlayStation 5 this Holiday season. Gran Turismo 7's graphics may support as high as 8K, meaning that the PS5 is going to make this game look better than ever before!

Bringing the Games

Overall, Sony's got quite the line-up planned for the PlayStation 5's launch later this year! I'm looking forward to a lot more of these games than I anticipated. It seems like they've learned from the PS4's launch, where we felt like we were in a game desert for a while. What do you think you'll pick up with your PS5 first?
